About News in Brief

What it is and how it works.

What is this?

News in Brief is a daily news summary tool. You pick the topics you care about (technology, politics, science, sports, or anything else) and each morning you get a concise, editorially written briefing covering the most important stories from your selected topics.

Every briefing includes links to the original sources and a conversation starter, a question drawn from the day's news that's worth bringing up over coffee.

How does it work?

1. Choose your topics. Select from preset categories or add your own custom interests.

2. We gather the news. Articles are pulled from RSS feeds and news sources across the web, filtered to your interests.

3. AI writes your briefing. Claude, an AI assistant by Anthropic, reads the articles and produces a clean, professional summary. No fluff, no clickbait. Just the news that matters.

4. Read it your way. Choose between brief, balanced, or in-depth summaries. Get briefs on demand or scheduled at 7 AM.

Why this exists

Most people are too lazy to read full articles but perfectly willing to scroll through headlines. The problem is that headlines alone leave you uninformed, or worse, misinformed. News in Brief sits in the sweet spot: more substance than a headline, less commitment than a full article. It gives you a nice, customizable in-between so you can actually know what's going on without dedicating your whole morning to it.

The design

The color palette (dark green, warm tan, and cream) was inspired by my dream car: a green-on-tan Porsche 911 Targa.
